Traces Of You was released exactly one year after the passing of Charlie North's mother. He wrote many tracks during that time, not with the intention of releasing them but as a means of processing his grief. This EP is a selection of that music, offered as a way to mark the somber occasion and to ultimately share something positive with the world.
The opening track, "Traces Of You," explores the idea of what is left behind after someone dies. It is a contemplation on the possessions of the deceased and the memories they create.
"Carried Away" is a piece inspired by the ritual of scattering ashes on the beach. The title also refers to the physical act of carrying a coffin and the overwhelming emotions that can accompany the loss of a loved one.
"Anything You Want" is a tribute to North's mother and her liberating attitude towards music. The track was inspired by the first time North sat in front of a piano and was encouraged to play anything he wanted. This experience ultimately marked the beginning of his lifelong musical journey.
The final track, "Willow," is particularly poignant to North as he started writing it in his late mother's garden while waiting for the rest of the funeral procession to arrive. The track is a tribute to the memories and experiences shared in that garden over the years.
